Georgetown Air Fest 10.1.11

Ever since we moved here and I first read about it, I've been so excited for us to take the boys to the Air Fest. This was the second  annual Air Fest held at Georgetown Airport (which is only about three minutes from our house). Anything that involved airplanes, only a couple minute drive, and no entry fee.... it was a must-do, in addition, the weather was fantastic. Surprisingly, several of the historic planes are actually based out of the Georgetown Airport.

P-51 Mustang Buzzin' Cuzzin, a WWII fighter plane.

A nice looking modern airplane of little distinction and no known history, to me at least.

Pietenpol Air Camper. This one was built by Kevin Purtee over a period of sixteen and a half years.  He built it using Bernard Pietenpol's 1929 plans and the 80 horsepower motor of a Chevy Corvair.

Aaron checking out the Nanchang CJ 5, also called a Chinese Yak, because it  is the Chinese version of the Soviet Yakovlev Yak-18, which came into service in 1946.

MI-24 Hind. Used in Bulgaria in the 1980's, it is a combination troop transport and attack helicopter.

L-29  Delfin, a Czech jet trainer built in 1965. This one was in service in the Czech air force  until 1991.

Bell UH-1E Huey. In service in Vietnam, the Huey got its name from the original  designation of HU-1, which was changed a couple of years later to UH-1. The Huey was used in Vietnam as a gunship, troop transport, and medevac helicopters.

The MI-24 Hind's nickname is "Krokodil" (Crocodile) from its camoflauge color and fuselage shape.

This one is owned by the Cold War Air Museum in Lancaster, Texas.
