The trouble you'll get in to

It is not even June and the natives are already restless. The end of school brings the beginning of a long hot summer full of bored neighborhood teenagers just waiting for the next opportunity to defy authority, the law, and any notion of common sense. As I write, the same roadworthy scooter goes zipping up and down our street carrying at least two different teens, every four to five minutes. Where they go, what they do, and why it is necessary to shuttle bodies back and forth so often remains a mystery. What is not a mystery however is that they are not of legal driving age, and I'm pretty sure it is not legal - or at least not sensible - to carry large dogs while driving.

What else, you ask, gets this prematurely-aged, late-twenties mom going... how about the loitering... go find something to do, get a job, or a hobby!! "Mamma said idle hands are devil's handy work, oh the trouble you'll get in to..." Too bad mamma doesn't run the house anymore, and is not around to issue such warnings - so there they are lingering in front of our house, tormenting the dogs and causing generalized restlessness.

"No more pencils, no more books, no more teacher's dirty looks." Considering I see the neighbor kid get on, and later off the bus, every day carrying nothing but the waist of his over sized jeans, pencils and books are a stretch. However, having experienced the disciplining power of a dirty look - so long as there are teachers with with-it-ness, there will always be dirty looks. I think the next verse of that song better suits today's bright young minds (are you sensing sarcasm?)...

Well we got no class
And we got no principles
And we got no innocence
We can't even think of a word that rhymes

Speaking of "up to no good", our munchkin has figured out how to carry his dog on his vehicle - only it is stuffed and the trike tops out at about one mile per hour, and the only real damage he can cause is a sore toe or scuffed wall...
