Colorado Trip Post #4

You are probably wondering how many more trip posts there are going to be. If you are one of these people, I'm guessing you either do not have young children in your life or have never been to the mountains. I recommend you remedy both, quick. In the meantime, you can enjoy (many more of) our blog posts. :)

Day Six of our mountain adventure started with Alan leaving the cabin bright and early to brave the thirty-seven degree temperatures for the sake of fly-fishing.
While Alan was out fishing, the boys and I walked into town to wander around, play, and get a couple of things at the market. After the market, we headed for the playground in the center of town. The building next to the park is now the Public Library...
From my lifeguard chair on the grass in the park, this is the view of "downtown" Lake City. There are a few more buildings beyond these, but not many. All you really need is a soda fountain, a bank, fudge store, and a couple of gift shops.
One of my favorite spots. Thankfully the boys like it too.
After we played for an hour or so, we took the long way back around town, toward the river. This guy crossed our path...
Path along the river.
We went back home to have lunch, rest a bit, and collect Daddy.
Then we were off on our next adventure... checking out the road beyond Deer Lakes (CO 50), which led to Cathedral.
It was a beautiful drive that wove in and out of rocky outcroppings and followed Cebolla Creek. The mountains were different than the ones going west (toward the Alpine Loop), a little less rugged but just as scenic. Alan could not resist the urge to fish in a couple of the beaver dammed areas of the creek.
While he fished, the boys and I relaxed in the car or wandered around. Every couple of weeks Aaron and Adam become somewhat obsessed with a particular song. At the time of our trip it was the Ray Charles song, "I've Got a Woman." So, whenever they felt it necessary, they would burst out in song. Eventually they learned a couple of verses, but for now, they just repeated the first, over and over. Definitely warranted a video...
Crazy Adam usually leads to sleeping Adam. And since we were on a bumpy road with the windows down, naturally, he needed to "have a snooze."
Punky big brother.
We got out and let the boys run at a dispersed camping area called Hidden Valley. There were four or so tent spots along the creek, right off the road.
Angel boys.
See water, must throw rocks.
Happy Dance!
Fireweed.
Adam hunting for more fluffy pine cones to throw in the water. They realized the fluffy ones float, while the tight ones sink.
We eventually turned around and backtracked, not knowing how long it would take us to reach the other side, or if the Passat would be able to do it. As we approached the Deer Lakes area again, we saw this dude and a couple of his friends...
A quick stop at the grocery before we went home for supper and to escape the rain. In case you are wondering, this is the grocery store in the bustling town of Lake City.
