Gillett, Texas

Friends of ours invited us to their ranch near Gillett, Texas at the beginning of December (the 9-10th). So we loaded up the boys, big toys and the little toys and took off for a couple of days... 

Their ranch has hill country-like trees and brush, sandy ground, and coastal-like winds. It has recently become part of the south Texas oil-boom business and is now home to a 24-hour operation of pumping and refining complete with trucks and one of those huge gas-burn off flames. Adam found a nice spot to check things out...

Once I unloaded our gear (we basically moved in for two days and then moved back out), all four of us pilled up on the four-wheeler and followed Bud on his tractor for a tour of the ranch.

We met some friendly donkeys.

And got an up close look at the on-site oil refinery.

Then the big boys set off to get some work done in the new barn...

And the little boys set off to find mischief...

And eventually going on "adventures" on the four-wheeler...

 Then I thought I'd try my hand on the John Deere and took the boys for a ride...

That night a mighty storm blew in bringing cold temperatures and high winds that made it nearly impossible to play around outside... so we loaded back up and headed home. It was a quick, but nice little getaway.
