Laugh Lines

I have recently begun to notice that my laugh lines do not fade anymore. They are starting to take up permanent residence and reproduce. I thought about this over the past few days and the many things I hear about wrinkles and laugh lines. I have to side with the school of thought that laugh lines are earned and should therefore, be revered. Sure, I could try anyone of the hundreds of overpriced beauty products that claim to plump, loosen, tighten, vanish, etc. but where is the fun in that.

The depth and number of my laugh lines will tell my story… I married an absurdly amusing guy who, if he is in the right mood can easily make my face hurt on a regular basis… then there are the dogs. They do the funniest things. I enjoy standing at the back window and watching them when they do not realize it. They stalk, then attack each other, spin randomly, howl, squeal and gurgle. When they come in the house they pretend they are humans; Hayley will not leave my side, and Graycie lays on the big fluffy dog comforter in the den all day and will only look up out of the corner of her eye if she feels you have something to offer her.

Then there is Aaron. He makes us laugh so much. I decided to record a few of the things that have been making us laugh lately…in no particular order…

Motorboat. He has gotten quite skilled at this and resorts to it when everything else fails… while eating, in his bouncy seat, car seat, Jumperoo, chewing on a toy, on a walk, getting his diaper changed, falling asleep, waking up, in the bathtub…every time is a good time for a little motor boating.

When changing his diaper, sometimes we put a wipe over his baby “peepee” as to not get sprayed (which really doesn't happen that often anymore). He will, while staring straight at me, gradually reach down and pull the wipe out from between his legs. All of this is very sneaky, as if moving slowly and distracting me with his big blue eyes is going to make his actions invisible.

Drama cough. This is the term Alan and I have assigned to the seemingly meaningless “fake” coughing that Aaron does. He shapes his mouth in a perfect oval, sticks his rolled tongue out slightly, and usually throws in a little shoulder action. He is very efficient at real coughing and reserves that for serious and necessary occasions, like choking on milk or something… but this drama coughing – almost appears to be for his own entertainment. He will go at it and if you say something to him in the middle of it, he’ll stop, turn to look at you, and smile real big as if to admit, “okay, you got me, I’m full of it.”

Giggling. It is contagious. At night after our walk or before his bath I have been able to get him going for several minutes at a time. Another funny thing about his giggling is that one-day something will be funny to him and the next day it is something totally different, random things like the sound of paper crunching, funny faces, “boo,” or the sound that his Jumperoo makes.

Lately he enjoys holding one leg straight up in the air for minutes at a time. He has a very serious look on his face while accomplishing this great task (not sure if you've seen his legs recently but we have trees outside with smaller diameters). I used to think he did it after pooping – but now I think it is completely random.

About twice a day or so Alan will hold Aaron so that their faces are a couple inches apart and he will start to sing/hum through the William Tell Overture. There is something about that song or the way Alan does it that captivates Aaron so intently that he does not even blink, but simply stares directly at him until it is finished. It makes me laugh so hard.

The noises he makes lately are hilarious. I have already mentioned the motorboat and in addition to that he squeals, yells, gurgles, hums, grunts, pants like a dog, and “talks” periodically. Everyday brings a new noise and the first couple of times he makes that noise he impresses himself and starts smiling, as if to say, “Did you hear that? I made that noise.”

Here is a video clip I took today. It shows a few of the things that I have mentioned above: the Jumperoo, giggling, a few drama coughs, etc. We crack up at his explosions of energy. How do you like my TV blocking contraption? Classy eh, works well though.

Here are a couple of pictures from Alan's trip to Colorado.
